The 2007 Volta a Portugal (Tour of Portugal) runs from 4 to 15 August over 10 stages.
A 38.8km Individual Time Trial in Viseu caps off the 2007 Volta a Portugal and it was to be Xavier Tondo's day.

Coming second in the Time Trial by 9 seconds was of little consequence to Xavier Tondo (LA MSS) because his performance was easily enough for him to win the 2007 Volta a Portugal. He ended up winning by 56" from 4 time stage winner Candido Barbosa (Liberty Seguros) and 1'31" ahead of Hector Guerra (Liberty Seguros).
In terms of the stage, Guerra took out the Time Trial, covering the 38.8km in 50'46" at an average speed of 45.857km/h. Xavier Tondo was second and in 3rd place was David Blanco (Duja-Tavira) 22 seconds behind Guerra.
The other classifications went like this:
Candido Barbosa easily won the Points Classification, the Mountains Classification went to Andre Cardoso (Fercase/Rota Dos Moveis) and the Young Rider was taken out by Tiago Machado (Riberalves-Boavista).

The leader of the Mountains Classification, Andre Cardoso (Fercase/Rota Dos Moveis) again increased his lead being first over the first Category 3 climb of the day and is now 20 points clear of Candido Barbosa.
Paride Grillo has managed to drag back a few points for the Points Classification competition thanks to his stage victory but is still 48 points behind Barbosa with only 3 stages left.
Following the rest day, the field got underway from Celorico de Basto and it was Eladio Jimenez (Karpin-Galicia) who was able to pull away from the pack on the final climb and take the stage victory, winning by 6 seconds from José Azevedo (Benfica) and the triple stage winning yellow jersey wearer Candido Barbosa (Liberty Seguros) who fought grimly to only lose 11 seconds for the day. The victory has moved Jimenez up to second place on the GC 9 seconds beind Barbosa.
It's turning into the Candido Barbosa show as, for the third straight day he took the honours in a bunch sprint. Barbosa edged out Antonio Bucciero (Ceramica Panaria-Navigare) with Bruno Neves (LA MSS) back in 3rd place. Everyone in the overall GC top ten were in attendance in the lead bunch so, apart from line bonuses to Barbosa, the GC remains pretty well unchanged.
Although Martin Garrido was with the lead group as they began the final climb, he was unable to match Barbosa over the final few kilometres and ended up losing 25 seconds to him, which also means that Barbosa has taken over the lead in the overall GC. Barbosa now holds a 10 second lead over David Blanco (Duja-Tavira) with Xavier Tondo (LA MSS) in 3rd place only 1 second further back.

Stage 2 is a 169km stage from Vila Viçosa - Castelo Branco. Although there
was an early break of 6 riders in the stage, they were unable to stay away from the peloton who reeled them in to ensure another mass sprint finish. In the sprint it was Spaniard Francisco Jose Pacheco Torres (Barbot-Halcon) who took the honours ahead of Paride Grillo (Ceramica Panaria-Navigare) and Martin Garrido (Duja-Tavira).
