The 2007 Volta a Portugal (Tour of Portugal) runs from 4 to 15 August over 10 stages.

The 6th stage runs from Celorico de Basto to Mondim de Basto, a course that runs in a big loop and, more importantly, a course that travels over some serious climbs.

Following the rest day, the field got underway from Celorico de Basto and it was Eladio Jimenez (Karpin-Galicia) who was able to pull away from the pack on the final climb and take the stage victory, winning by 6 seconds from José Azevedo (Benfica) and the triple stage winning yellow jersey wearer Candido Barbosa (Liberty Seguros) who fought grimly to only lose 11 seconds for the day. The victory has moved Jimenez up to second place on the GC 9 seconds beind Barbosa.

The Mountains Classification saw Andre Cardoso (Fercase/Rota Dos Moveis) increase his lead when he won the climb up the Category 1 Monte Do Viso as well as a couple more up the Category 3 Portela St Eulália. He is 15 points clear of Candido Barbosa.

The only points available in today's stage were those picked up over the finish line plus a couple of sprints that were taken out by the day's escapees, so Barbosa has continued his commanding hold on that jersey, 57 points clear of Jimenez.

The Young Rider Classification is still headed by Tiago Machado (Riberalves-Boavista) who holds a 2'05" lead over John-Lee Augustyn (Barloworld)
